The ruby-throated hummingbirds have packed up and headed south in search of warmer temperatures and more plentiful food. Thankfully, fond memories of them linger as we count down the days until their return in the spring.

great shots Rebecca! Female too.
I noticed that they were all female. I don’t know how that happened.
you attract females I guess?
The first two photos were taken after the males had already left. The males migrate first and then the females and young follow later from what I understand.
yes, that’s what I’ve heard as well.
Beautiful hummer.
Especially when the sun hits their feathers just right. Thanks, Timothy!
Such amazing little critters.
Yes, they are! 🙂
Great photos, Rebecca. I look forward every spring to their return here in May. Zip!
Me too! The yard just feels so still without them.
You really got some close-up shots of the hummingbirds posing nicely for you Rebecca and not just hovering over a feeder. Start counting the months – we have until May. I searched for that migration map now, instead of in the Spring and learned that the map is active all year around. I will send it in a separate comment since I’ll put in the link.
Here is the migration link map – I have seen it on several birding sites I follow on Facebook and I think they sent me a newsletter by e-mail at one time.

Thanks, Linda! 🙂
Lovely captures and so nice to see them on this cold day. I suppose their absence makes us appreciate them more when they return, along with spring.
Thanks, Ellen! It definitely does.
