Finding Shelter

It was a chilly, windy day out on the lake. This young Prothonotary Warbler found shelter among the water lilies, flittering from leaf to leaf and occasionally sitting peacefully and soaking up the warmth of the sun.

  1. This little warbler was such a bright spot in your photos with its vibrant plumage and the video makes it look curious about its surroundings. We have had so many windy days this year – high winds, over 30-35 mph or even gustier and causing me to return home earlier than intended.

    • Yes, we had one of those days today. It was too windy to enjoy being out for long. The lake wind was very strong the day I took these photos, so the warbler was smart to find shelter and lay low.

      • It was glad to find some shelter. We had storms from this afternoon on and more overnight. I’ve been hopping online between the storms, but I am not complaining after the devastating tornadoes this weekend.

      • Yes, terrible weather west/northwest of us. I’m glad to hear the worst part didn’t affect you. We mainly just got the wind and some heavy rain.

      • You were lucky too then. This weather has been volatile everywhere, even our bouts of torrential rain were some incredible pounding. Our weather forecasters reminded us today that May 1st starts severe weather awareness month since Michigan has tornadoes mostly in May and June – last year we had seven fairly close the night of August 24th.

      • I think it will be a stormy spring too – they were giving their long-range weather forecast since it was May 1st. Between the cicadas, ticks, mosquitoes and weather, it might be trying for our walking and photography to get accomplished.
