Gulf Fritillary

The Gulf Fritillary, also known as the longwing or passion butterfly, is a stunning and delicate insect. Its vibrant orange wings are accented with black streaks on top, while the undersides display white and brown spots. Their lives are brief, lasting only a few weeks. During this period, they spend their days feasting on nectar as one of their major sources of energy.

A butterfly just fluttered by
as little wings just kissed the sky.
And when it flew just out of view,
God whispered,
“I made that for you.”

  1. What a beautiful butterfly and how sad it has such a short life span. You have captured it beautifully Rebecca and having the sun on its wings in the first four pictures, it seems to blend right in with the flowers. I’ve never seen one of these beauties – it is especially beautiful looking from above like you have taken the shot with the pink flowers with wings outstretched wide.

      • I’ve never had Zinnias, but they seem to be butterfly magnets and easy to grow as well. Maybe next year, I’ll think about a pot of them if I could have the chance to see a beautiful butterfly like this one.

      • Lowe’s had a variety of colors in small pots at a good price a couple of weeks ago, so I bought two to sit out by my vegetable planters. Since then, I have seen several butterflies and moths visiting the area.
