“A beautiful sight that tickles the eyes and thrills the soul” is the phrase that came to mind while watching a group of female ruby-throated hummingbirds as they danced and weaved around the feeder and late September flowers. Between their swift dips and dives, the hummingbirds jealously guarded their favorite resting spots in the nearby bushes. For the males, the seasonal stay here is over, and they have already migrated south toward a warmer climate. These females may also be on the move, taking a brief stopover before continuing their journey.

“There are two ways of seeing: with the body and with the soul. The body’s sight can sometimes forget, but the soul remembers forever.” ~Alexandre Dumas
Beautiful hummingbirds. Ours have all left now that it’s cooling down.
It’s suggested here to keep the feeders full through October for migrating hummers.
We don”t put up feeders. They have lots of blooming flora, and seem very happy with it.
Beautiful birds
It’s a joy to sit on the porch and watch their antics. 🙂
Sweet things! I miss them already. 🙂
Me too! Thanks, Eliza.
My resident Anna hummers are around. They’ve gotten so use to me being around they just stay drinking while I’m moving about.
Great shots Rebecca!
Thanks, Wayne! I love the colors on the Anna’s Hummingbird faces. Hummingbirds do seem to recognize and watch for the people who feed them. The yard always seems so quiet when they all leave.
you do not have any wintering over? I wonder why mine hang around? They could south and keep warm.
No, we only have the Ruby-throated Hummingbird and they migrate south by the middle of October. Sadly, I am no longer seeing any in my yard or at my feeder. Once their food sources are gone and the leaves begin falling from the trees, they head to warmer places.
right, I forgot your area gets snow. Humming birds and snow do not mix.
I know you will miss these tiny creatures Rebecca. Ours left SE Michigan in September, but they could have stayed as it’s been so warm, but they know best when to go. You got a lot of nice photos of them perching in bushes, contemplating life and also that one in mid-flight. 🙂
Thanks, Linda. It’s hard to resist these little birds. 🙂
Yes, the little jewels of the garden. 🙂
Beautiful
Thank you!
PRETTY BIRDS AMEN ❤
Thanks, Kristi.
Oh, I really wish we had them in my country! These little birds are so amazing, and the photos are wonderful!
They are amazing birds. Thanks so much!
