Recently, we had the pleasure of watching the stunning beauty and graceful flight of white pelicans during their annual fall migration at Reelfoot Lake.

“To the sane and free it will hardly seem necessary to cross the continent in search of wild beauty, however easy the way, for they find it in abundance wherever they chance to be.” ~John Muir
Such beautiful captures of these majestic American White Pelicans, Rebecca ~ thanks for sharing! š¤
love the video Rebecca!
Thanks, Wayne. They move quickly about the lake, especially if people are around. It’s fun to be in the right place at the right time.
searching for that right place/right time is the same as a prospector searching for his gold….you find enough to keep the faith
What a treat to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, Great photos, Rebecca.
Thanks, Kathy. It’s always a gift to be able to sit and watch them.
So many! and getting along relatively peacefully, too. š
Occasionally one will nudge another from its spot but for this size crowd, they were doing very well. š
Great photos of all those beautiful birds.
Thanks so much, Mags. They are a treat to watch.
Love those pelicans. Beautiful photos and video.
Thanks, Timothy. The are quite mesmerizing.
You WERE lucky to see all these pelicans gathered here. I liked the photos and the video as well. Interesting how they preen with that long bill – sideways! I was hoping to see the white pelicans at the state park where they stop, but they closed the park for renovation back in the Spring and the proposed June opening has still not happened. Hopefully next year I’ll see a beautiful sight like this.
Thanks, Linda. There is a pretty good size flock visiting right now. They are quite entertaining sometimes the way they peck at each other and preen. I hope you are able to see them next year.
So you will return to see them while they are still there then Rebecca? I would go again, like when you see the Snow Geese, as it’s such a unique sight to see.
Yes, we went back this past weekend and will whenever we get the chance. There’s always something fun to see. š
I don’t blame you – I would return too. I went to Lake Erie Metropark today and the marsh water levels are so low they are barely there. It has been like that most of the Summer, but the worst I’ve seen it today. I hope the waterfowl don’t move to another park.
Our water levels have been very low this summer also, but we got some rain last week which has helped and are expecting more tomorrow.
That’s good – that will help. I worry about the waterfowl.
We have these in Colorado. From growing up and living life in the South, pelicans in Colorado seem unnatural. I was used to the gulf pelicans. I love the white pelicans and how at first glance, they look like swans. Very pretty.
Both kinds of pelicans are fascinating to watch. I do think the white pelicans look so royal and graceful while swimming.
Fabulous series, Rebecca, of these amazing birds.
Thanks, Ellen. Time seems to stand still while watching them. š
