November Blessings

Sometimes it is the simple, unexpected things that we encounter which fill our hearts with joy and make us thankful.

True wisdom lies in gathering the precious things out of each day as it goes by.” ~E. S. Bouton

The poem below holds significance as Thanksgiving approaches and November comes to an end.

November

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late.
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing.
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

Give thanks to theĀ Lord, because he is good.

  1. As always this is a wonderful offering for us to share in. Thank you for blessing us with your gift and happy Thanksgiving to you and your familyšŸ—šŸ¦ƒ

  2. That’s a beautiful poem and a beautiful collection of images to go along with it Rebecca. I’ve never seen a skink and that little frog is so cute. The reflections you have along with the Mourning Dove are so peaceful. You had a great view of the Northern Lights, so pretty with all the pinky-red! I have too much light pollution so I saw nothing back in the week of November 10th when they were their best and brightest. The gorgeous colors of Fall are fading fast unfortunately, but you captured them all here in this post. Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Thanks, Linda. This was the first time that I had seen the reddish and green colors of the northern lights from my house. They were visible without looking through a cell phone, but much brighter by looking through one. I was able to see them the first night but didn’t have any luck on the second night that they were supposed to be visible. I have really enjoyed the colors of autumn this year and am always sad to see them fade. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving.

      • Your colors were amazing. A fellow Michigan blogger further north than me got some pinks and reds the second night – she had band practice and missed our best night, the first night. Our leaves, what was left of them, have mostly dropped after three days of intense wind. I hate to see the leaves fade and Fall fade too – we have our first Winter storm coming in Saturday afternoon. My Thanksgiving was nice, but quiet as it’s just me.

    • Reelfoot Lake is a flooded forest and many of the cypress trees in the area are very old. Due to drought, water levels are unusually low this year. Typically, the water reaches the top of the dark ring on the cypress tree in this photo. The large darker area at the bottom of the tree, which is usually submerged and not always visible, is now exposed.
