Pearl Crescent

DSC07223

This Pearl crescent butterfly danced with the wind all around the backyard and eventually landed on a wooden board to soak up some afternoon sun.

November butterfly

A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam …
and for a brief moment it’s glory
and beauty belong to our world …
But then it flies on again, and although
we wish it could have stayed,
we are so thankful to have seen it at all.

Autumn butterfly

This Question Mark butterfly blended in well with the fallen autumn leaves lying  beside our country road.

“… [Summer’s] spirit lives on in the flittering Autumn butterfly, the warmth of the waning sunlight and in the last lingering flower on the vine.”  ~Linda Poindexter

Gulf Fritillary

The bright orange color of a Gulf Fritillary floating down the roadside on a light autumn breeze is a beautiful sight.  I spotted this one on my morning walk down our country road.

“When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.”  ~G.K. Chesterton

Common Buckeye

I am always thrilled when I come upon a Buckeye.  It is my favorite among the butterflies.  I like the colors and the bold pattern of the eyespots which are thought to frighten or distract predators.

“I opened two gifts this morning. They were my eyes.”  ~Unknown
