The Wily Coyote

Though I sometimes hear distant group howls late at night — a sound that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and sparks instant fear in the eyes of the family dogs — it is rare that I see one out in the open during the daytime.  This coyote crossed the road in front of our car and quickly made its way to the back of an open farm field.

Gulf Fritillary

The bright orange color of a Gulf Fritillary floating down the roadside on a light autumn breeze is a beautiful sight.  I spotted this one on my morning walk down our country road.

September wildflowers

I enjoy all the different colored wildflowers blooming along the roadside and in the fields during September.

Common Buckeye

I am always thrilled when I come upon a Buckeye.  It is my favorite among the butterflies.  I like the colors and the bold pattern of the eyespots which are thought to frighten or distract predators.
