All confused

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny, warm day here in West Tennessee.  While I was out for an afternoon stroll, I noticed some wildflowers blooming that I don’t usually expect to see in November.  The warm temperatures this autumn have them all confused.  With a cold front rolling in this week, this is probably the last I’ll see of these pretty blooms for a while, but it was nice to have one last nice day to enjoy them.

Partridge peas

These partridge peas which grow wild along our country road add simple beauty and cheerful color to the landscape.

A Yellow theme

On my walks this week, the yellows of this season as summer fades into autumn have really been popping out and catching my attention.  Here are a few photos from those country road walks.

When I was growing up, my Grandmother had one of these plants in her front garden.  We used to pull off a leaf, press it with our fingers until the “skin” separated from the fleshly center, tear the stem end off the leaf, and gently blow into it.  It was fun to watch the leaf puff up like a “frog belly”.  This was a simple way to entertain yourself on a hot summer afternoon.  🙂
