Storms

A line of severe storms came rolling through West Tennessee today.  Shortly before sunset, the sky turned a strange orange color as the sound of a tornado siren sounded nearby.  This is certainly not our typical December weather.

Hope is a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds after a storm.  Faith is knowing there are more where that one came from.  ~Linda Poindexter

Wild Turkey

While out for a drive, we came upon this flock of wild turkey foraging for food on the ground out in a field.

A place to rest

“Peace.  It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work.  It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.”  ~Unknown

Using his head

A woodpecker peeking out of the hole of a hollowed tree branch.  In one of the photos, you can see him throwing a wood chip out of the hole.

“Even the woodpecker owes his success to the fact that he uses his head and keeps pecking away until he finishes the job he started.”  ~Coleman Cox

A walk in the woods

I enjoy walking the trails around Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge and seeing the plant and animal life there.  The woods are filled with the sound of the leaves rustling in the trees and birds calling back and forth to each other.   My favorite forest sound is that of a loud barred owl resonating somewhere off in the distance.

“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.”  ~Henry David Thoreau
