Both Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs forage in the shallow water of flooded fields near the Mississippi River at this time of year. These shorebirds spend a few weeks in the area before moving on to their breeding grounds in the north.

Yes, indeed! 🙂
Wonderful collection of Yellowlegs, Rebecca! They are so industrious and fun to watch go about their business.
Thanks, Ellen! They are busy little birds.
Those birdies sure like to be photographed. They even posed for you.
Fortunately, I think they were too busy foraging for food to take much notice of me. 🙂
Wonderful captures, Rebecca! They are gorgeous birds.
Thanks, Eliza! Yes, their plumage is quite striking, especially in the spring.
Good posers aren’t they! Beautiful photos.
The ones standing on the mud were good posers. The ones in the water were quick runners and very noisy.
green with envy! great record of this lovely bird.
Thanks so much Andy! I really enjoy watching them. They move on all too quickly.
Love the shots Rebecca! Is that your quote?
Thanks Wayne! No, not my quote, but one that I’ve found to be very true.
