It is a good habitat for wildlife. Unfortunately, man is probably their biggest predator. Fortunately, Tennessee has state laws that have been made to help protect them.
Surprised they all put up with each other. Maybe turtles are more social. I know great blue herons will complain and chase each other if they are annoyed some other heron is fishing too close to them.
So many turtles sunbathing and enjoying a Summer’s Day but I wasn’t prepared to see a huge fallen log full of them! They are soaking up the sun’s rays before it is time to burrow at the bottom of the Lake for the Winter.
That log is one of their favorite spots. I almost always see a number of turtles there. The secret is to get a photo before they realize that you’re there and all slide off. 🙂
A nice lineup and all sizes. It is tricky, as they are spooked so easily and I like how they just plop into the water, one by one, like there is a pecking order for escaping the human(s).
