Unplanned Moments

The highlight of my time spent out in nature comes with the sudden and unplanned appearance of wildlife that I hadn’t expected to see. In nature, you never know what you’re going to catch a glimpse of from one moment to the next.

  1. What a great collection you have here Rebecca and the quote is perfect (as usual). You were up close to the possum and the snake. I think the raccoon, rabbit, deer, coyote and gopher were curious about the photographer and were posing just for you! I agree with you – the surprise encounters and finds make our walks so special.

    • Thanks, Linda. You’re right. My dogs spotted the possum in my neighbors yard and let me know it was there. I was able to take a picture of it over the fence. The snake was in my front yard. The others were taken on walks and were more at a distance. The woodchuck was on the edge of a soybean field near a creek covered by trees. This is the first one that I’ve ever seen and had no idea that we had them on our country road. It’s not unusual to hear the coyotes late at night.

      • I walked out in the backyard one morning and came face to face with a big possum and I do not live in a rural area. I am sure the gasp and look on both of our faces was identical. We had a windstorm and I wanted to ensure no twigs had fallen into the A/C unit grid before turning it on, so I dashed out back and didn’t have my camera. My neighbor tells me raccoons have been in his garbage and I said “no way” and he took pictures of a mom and baby in his huge garbage can. Thy had flipped the lid open and swung it back. You were lucky to see all these critters and they provided you all these wonderful photos.
