Floral Delights

In the shallow water around the lake’s edge, these skippers encountered a vibrant array of delectable Pickerelweed flowers, reminding me of purple popsicles on a warm, sunny day. The sweet-scented blossoms provided an enticing treat as they eagerly feasted on pollen and nectar.

Additionally, the buttonbushes, adorned with their white pom-poms made up of numerous tubular flowers rich in nectar, attracted a variety of pollinators with their pleasant scent, inviting them also to partake in this aquatic garden celebration.

In whispers of blooms, a story unfolds,
Nectar beckons, secrets untold.
Amidst the chaos, a purpose aligns,
Timeless pathways through nature’s designs.

  1. How wonderful! We have button bushes here in South Florida in many places, and I‘ve photographed them for their beauty. But I never realized that they have a lovely scent till you mentioned it!

  2. Well, this was quite a find to see all these winged beauties Rebecca. I liked seeing all the Skippers feasting on the Pickerelweed flowers and in the video too with the bird singing so sweetly in the background. I’ve never seen buttonbushes, but they look like butterfly magnets!

    • So often I walk right past these blooms around the lake and don’t think a thing about it. I’m glad that the skippers and other insects drew my attention to them this time around. Their nectar-rich flowers really do draw the insects. The little bird was singing enthusiastically. My first thought was probably a cardinal, though I never saw it.

      • Good thing all the skippers were busy – it’s so easy to miss those little creatures. I used to have a cardinal that would sing his heart out and I’d whistle back at him – this was in the backyard and that bird kept up the singing until I couldn’t keep up with him. Simple joy.

  3. Lucky you, being able to get that great video and photos. And to top them off to heard the bird singing on the video. I really enjoyed this post. Thank you for sharing the beauty you were able to capture.
