The Northern Cardinals have been plentiful in our backyard this winter. I spotted these two cuties in our bushes one afternoon. The female, though not as flashy as the bright red male, has lovely brown-gold plumage with warm red accents and a distinctive crest.

Oh these are so pretty! I have always loved the female cardinal’s contrasting colors! And two for one, nice!! The top right one is my favorite. 🙂
Thanks, Donna! The bright red color of the male is probably most memorable, but the colors of the female are also quite lovely.
Terrific images! I love cardinals and have grown even more appreciative of their look- your lovely photos remind me why-
Thanks! We have had a group of cardinals wintering around our yard this year and it has been fun to watch their comings and goings. No two look exactly alike.
