A walk along the boardwalk at the Grassy Island portion of the Reelfoot Lake Wildlife Refuge revealed a serene scene as a great blue heron stood statuesque in the shallow water, awaiting his next meal.

Beautiful. I love GBHs.
I always enjoy seeing them. They are such stately looking birds.
The heron is such a majestic bird!
I think so too! 🙂
Whoa, these are seriously beautiful captures!
Thanks you, Cindy! It’s a beautiful place.
What a tranquil and peaceful scene … the motionless heron just makes it all the more so. Hope he got the fish he was waiting on. Your quote matches the photo perfectly.
You usually see them striking occasionally, but I never saw this one move. The fishing must not have been good that day. 🙂
I miss seeing the heron at Council Point Park. I liked watching him studying the water for a long time and it seems like I’d blink just at that time when his long neck and beak would plunge into the water and spear a fish or a frog and in a heartbeat he would swallow it whole, alive and kickin’ “down the hatch” it went.
beautiful bird with a ugly sound. Some how they got in the wrong line?
LOL. Their sound is quite abrasive. 🙂
