The dragonflies seemed to know that the warm, sunny days are numbered and will soon be coming to an end. They were out enjoying the sunshine, patrolling their territory and, undoubtedly, taking advantage of the abundance of mosquitoes in the area. Occasionally they would rest on floating leaves or vegetation near the lake’s edge.

I like those blue dragonflies – I see them at Lake Erie Metropark. You were lucky they were sunbathing so often – funny how they decided to float on a brown leaf in the water – what a great pose for you Rebecca.
The blue dragonflies seem to be more plentiful here. Some of the leaves from the smaller trees are already changing color and falling, so they had several to choose from. Fall is in the air. 🙂
They are beautiful and hard to photograph unless they rest – we have 38 degrees overnight which will tie a record if it happens. Yes, Fall is definitely in the air but we have a warm-up next week – good, I felt a little cheated from that last few weeks of Summer we look forward to.
I wonder what kind of Dragon’s you had there Rebecca?
The only one that I am sure of is the brown one. It is an Eastern Amberwing. The blue ones seem to be mostly Slaty Skimmers with perhaps a Blue Dasher among them. The green one looks like an Eastern Pondhawk.
well you certainly know your Dragons Rebecca! I bet they eat their weight in bugs in a day or so?
They are certainly welcome to all the mosquitoes that they want. They have been really bad this summer. I’m looking forward to cooler weather so that I can be outside and not get eaten up.
