A pair of Northern Mockingbirds can be seen almost year-round in our front yard. At this time of year, they are especially attracted to the bright red berries that cover our holly bushes. Mockingbirds find them to be a tasty treat. In addition, they are high in fat and nutrients, which keep them warm and help them make it through the winter.

Mean a long winter, ’tis said.“

Beauty shots Rebecca!
Thanks, Wayne. Fortunately, this one was willing to pose for me. 🙂
Amazing captures, Rebecca ❤️
Thanks, Kathy. 🙂
I love mockingbirds. Around here, we have some, but catbirds are more commom.
Mockingbirds seem to be very territorial. They are always around the front yard and will chase other birds away. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a catbird. They are listed as uncommon to fairly common summer resident across our state.
Beautiful photos. The birds really enjoy those berries.
Thanks, Timothy. The American Robins and Cedar Waxwings also show up at some point in February or early March to help clear the berries.
Nice action series, Rebecca, post card perfect!
Thanks, Eliza!
Such amazing photos! Love the one with the berry in its beak! ❤️
Thanks so much, Jill.
These are beautiful photos Rebecca, especially the Mockingbird with the berry in its beak. I like your holly bush with all its berries – it could be a Christmas card for you to send out next year! My holly bush planted in 1985 is a Blue Boy and only gets about 20 berries altogether and not every year. I did not know “The Almanac” said that about holly berries – wow!
Thanks, Linda. I have two holly bushes that are filled with berries every year. Usually by spring, they have been picked clean. I was glad this Mockingbird didn’t seem to mind having his photo taken. I think it’s used to seeing me around.
You’ll be wowing us with more pictures of this Mockingbird (pair) then I’m sure.

Beautiful! And no snow? You must be way south of us! 😏
So far, we have only gotten one snow this winter. It seems like weather systems often tend to go north or south of us.
Lovely photos
Thanks, Melodie
Those are absolutely beautiful photos. Nice blog.
Thank you! 🙂
