Downy Woodpecker

This downy woodpecker and some of his friends have been busy lately drilling holes in our pine trees.  I even heard one tapping on the house early this morning.  They are pretty birds and interesting to watch, but you have to keep an eye on them to make sure they aren’t doing real damage.

  1. actually you might want to thank them for tapping on your house. They have acute hearing! They tap in order to disturb any insects so they can hear them stirring? They in affect only make holes where insects are. If they are making holes in your house, you have some sort of infestation & should look into it.
