I’ve never seen a Sandhill Crane, nor heard their call so I just Googled it … very different kind of call isn’t it?! They sure are beautiful in numbers and I especially like that dark red cap that each is “wearing” … a perfect matching quote to your photos as usual Rebecca.
Thanks, Linda! Yes, their calls are unique and can be heard from quite a distance. It is fun to sit and watch groups of them come in for a landing. It’s an unforgettable sight.
We have sandhill cranes in the northern suburbs but not around here … I liked looking at your photos. I think I mentioned the fellow blogger who goes to an area in Nebraska every year to watch their migration and where they gather – just amazing pictures.
I’d love to make that trip someday. Maybe after my husband retires.
Yes, a sight to see and it happens over about 3-4 days around the 15th of April. Something to look forward too Rebecca.
Such beautiful birds and a great recovery story. Sadly, Alabama has just allowed hunting of them again.
That is very sad to hear. I really look forward each year to their arrival in NW Tennessee.
Wow, so many, and what a sight to behold!
I’ve been hearing them off and on, but had not spotted any. I was glad to finally see some.
