Thanks, Eliza! I think it would take a lot of those little fish to fill the heron up.
They were great pictures of this heron fishing, especially the one where it was squatting in the water – it doesn’t matter what positions it takes, it looks like it worked as something big (maybe a frog?) was in its beak soon afterward.
It is amazing to watch them stand still for a time as they zero in on their target and then strike with great speed and accuracy.
Yes it is and they are good at it. I went to a dam last Summer and a heron was on the side of the dam catching fish in the churning water with no effort at all.

Gorgeous photos. Looks like we need to move to Tennessee although we saw more than 50 trumpeter swans at a wildlife center last week.

I found the best time to get shots of these guys is when they are preoccupied with getting the fish they see! They lose awareness of whats going on around them!
Agreed! They can be totally oblivious to their surroundings when focused on hunting. When they finish with the hunt, they become quite skittish.
Yes,they bug out pretty quickly when they realize somebody is closing in on them!
